April Surprise: Rogers and Fido Users Face $3 Monthly Price Hike!

Price Increases for Rogers and Fido Customers
Rogers and Fido users can expect higher monthly bills starting in april. The companies are raising prices to fund their network improvements.
A customer shared a notice on Reddit about a $3 increase per month that will take effect on or after April 8, 2025. The message from Fido states,“We continuously invest in our network to bring you the best mobile experiance in Canada. To help support these investments, we will be increasing the monthly fee for your mobile plan by $3 (plus taxes).”
Customer Reactions
Another user on Reddit mentioned they noticed a similar price hike of $3.50 per month on their Rogers line. After contacting Rogers about the increase and receiving no resolution, they decided to switch to Freedom Mobile.
Official Confirmation of Price Hikes
On March 17, 2025, Rogers confirmed it would raise prices between $1 and $3 each month but claimed that most customers would not be affected by this change. This is not the first time customers have faced price increases from these companies. In october 2024, both Rogers and Fido raised rates by as much as $5 per month. At that time, Rogers stated that the average increase was less than $4.
In addition to these hikes, there was meaningful backlash against Rogers for a controversial price rise related to TV box rentals last October.
Additional Charges and Layoffs
Recently, Rogers increased its connection fee for new mobile service sign-ups to $75. They also raised roaming charges just before March Break.
Simultaneously occurring as these price increases were announced, approximately 400 customer support workers were laid off at Rogers. The company also threatened former Shaw employees with lockouts due to stalled negotiations over labor contracts.
Financial Performance Amidst Controversy
Despite raising prices and cutting jobs, Rogers reported strong financial results recently. Their Q4 2024 earnings showed a two percent rise in total service revenue reaching $4.54 billion compared to previous quarters. Adjusted net income rose considerably by 26 percent totaling around $794 million during this period.
The average revenue per user (ARPU) within their wireless sector also saw a slight uptick from approximately $57.96 in Q4 2023 to about $58.04 in Q4 2024.
These developments indicate ongoing challenges for consumers while highlighting how companies like Rogers continue generating profits despite public dissatisfaction over pricing strategies.
