However, they have chosen to enhance it with the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This game serves as an introduction to the console’s features and is intended as a light addition for new users.

However, this isn’t just a free bonus. the game has a price tag attached, which surprised many at a recent press event. It seemed like an odd choice for business strategy at first glance, but I was open to understanding its value after trying out the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour functions primarily as an interactive guide. Players explore various booths filled with information about every feature of the console. For instance, I could walk on Joy-Con representations and learn about thier larger buttons or glide across screens that showcase new cartridge designs.
This app does provide useful information, even if much of it seems obvious to seasoned players. What sets it apart is how Nintendo tries to make learning fun by turning everything into mini-games. Some kiosks offer quizzes where players read about features and then answer questions based on what they learned.
A Fun Learning Experience
The app includes collectible medals for completing tasks that unlock more attractions within the tour. This aspect adds some enjoyment to what could be mundane learning sessions. One mini-game demonstrated mouse controls by having me navigate a spaceship while avoiding falling obstacles—simple yet effective in showcasing precise control compared to traditional motion controls.
Another activity involved feeling for HD rumble effects while moving the mouse controller back and forth; my guess was spot-on! these experiences effectively highlight improvements in technology.

The tour also creatively explains more complex tech ideas through quizzes and games.For example, one quiz asked me about different animations of bouncing balls and their frame rates—an easy way to understand differences between 60fps and 120fps visually.
In another kiosk experience, I played through World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros., but stretched across the screen so players can see how much detail modern displays can show in 4K resolution.
A Mixed Bag of Value
This approach is engaging but raises questions about its pricing model since most content could easily fit into a simple PDF guide instead of being sold as part of a game package.While charmingly designed mini-games exist here, they feel like swift creations rather than fully developed experiences—a point that makes me wonder who would pay extra for such content.
I find myself questioning why Nintendo has moved away from including pack-in games with consoles lately; perhaps past successes like Wii Sports led them to believe charging would be more profitable than giving away free content? But would those titles have gained such popularity without being included at no cost?
This brings us back around to pricing strategies surrounding the upcoming Switch 2 launch—a real test for both Nintendo’s brand strength and consumer willingness regarding costs associated with gaming today.
Will gamers still pay $80 for re-released titles simply because that's how things are now? The question remains: How much value do people place on these types of experiences? Would spending even $5 seem worthwhile just for exploring hardware tutorials?
