The recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation unveiled a plethora of exciting titles on the horizon for the new console. While we where already aware of the upcoming release of Mario Kart World, fresh announcements like Donkey Kong Bananza highlighted additional games set to launch in 2025.However, one title captured everyone's attention: initially mistaken by many as Bloodborne II—myself included—it turned out to be something possibly even more thrilling: The Duskbloods. This innovative IP from FromSoftware could sway skeptics into purchasing Nintendo's latest hardware.

Upon it's proclamation during the Direct event, The Duskbloods was slated for a release window in 2026. Given that FromSoftware is also launching Elden Ring: nightreign this year, a timeline extending to late next year seems feasible based on their development pace.

Interestingly enough, The Duskbloods bears a striking resemblance to Bloodborne; though it marks FromSoftware's first console-exclusive title as then and is currently confirmed only for the Switch 2.

The inaugural trailer for The Duskbloods debuted during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event showcasing an atmospheric gothic setting filled with themes surrounding blood and moonlight reminiscent of Bloodborne’s aesthetic yet quickly transitions into modern elements such as trains and characters donned in steampunk armor equipped with jetpacks.
This teaser provided glimpses into gameplay mechanics alongside various monsters but left much shrouded in mystery due to its cryptic narration.
A blog post titled Creator’s Voice featuring insights from director Hidetaka Miyazaki sheds light on what players can expect from The Duskbloods; players will embody characters known as “Bloodsworn,” who possess unique abilities derived from blood—akin to vampires but depicted without monstrous traits—and engage in competitions dubbed “First blood” occurring at humanity's twilight phase.
