Public Mobile changes up plans, reduces data buckets

Telus-owned Public Mobile just reduced the data offered on several plans and added a couple of new plans, too.

Heres the breakdown of Public’s plan changes:

  • $35/30GB 5G Canada-wide (prev. $35/80GB)
  • $40/60GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (prev. $40/100GB)
  • $50/80GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (prev. $50/150GB)
  • $60/100GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (new)
  • $70/150GB 5G CAN/US/MEX (new)
  • $20/500MB 4G Canada-wide (unchanged)
  • $23/2GB 4G Canada-wide (unchanged)
  • $26/5GB 4G Canada-wide (unchanged)
  • $30/15GB 4G Canada-wide (unchanged)

Along with the above changes, Public also removed the included international minutes from several plans.

While Public’s new plans aren’t bad, per se, they’re definitely worse than what they were. But the bigger issue here is timing — Public’s plan downgrades arrived the same day as Freedom brought back its $40/250GB deal.

With that said, I suspect we’ll see a reversal of Public’s plans as it will likely attempt to match Freedom’s pricing to some degree.
