Connections is a popular puzzle game featured by the New York Times. In this game, players must sort 16 words into four hidden groups based on their relationships. each night at midnight, a new puzzle appears with varying levels of difficulty. Similar to other games like wordle, you can track your wins and compare scores with friends.
Some puzzles can be quite challenging, much like other favorites from NYT Games such as The Mini Crossword and Strands. If you're struggling with today's puzzle, our guide offers helpful tips and strategies to improve your gameplay.
how to Play Connections
You can enjoy Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available for iOS and Android devices.
In each round of Connections, you will see a grid filled with 16 words. Your goal is to group these words into four sets of four by identifying how they connect. These connections could relate to various themes such as video game titles, book series names, colors like shades of red, or restaurant chains.
While some words may seem suitable for multiple categories, only one correct grouping exists for each set. You have the option to shuffle the word grid if needed to help spot potential connections more easily. Each group is color-coded based on difficulty: yellow represents the easiest category; green follows next; then blue; and finally purple as the most challenging.
To make a guess, select four words and click Submit. If your selection is correct, those words will disappear from the grid along with their connecting theme revealed. However, if you guess incorrectly it counts as one mistake against your total limit of three mistakes before losing the game.
