Chatr Wireless Increases Plan Prices: What You Need to Know
Chatr, a wireless brand owned by Rogers, has recently announced a price hike for its plans. Starting July 9, customers will see an increase of $2 to $5 per month on their 4G nationwide data plans.
Updated Pricing for Chatr Plans
Here’s a breakdown of Chatr's current pricing compared to teh previous rates:
- $28 for 3GB (up from $25)
- $34 for 10GB (previously $29)
- $39 for 60GB (increased from $34)
- $47 for 80GB (previously $45)
Despite the price rise,the features of these plans remain unchanged.Customers will not receive any additional benefits with their subscriptions. Each plan still offers unlimited talk across canada and data speeds reaching up to 150Mbps.
No More Unlimited Texting
A significant change occurred earlier this year when Chatr removed unlimited texting from its offerings in May. This policy remains intact; now users can send unlimited incoming texts and only up to 2,000 outgoing messages each month. After exceeding this limit, customers face a hefty charge of $0.70 per message sent internationally.
Bonus Data Options Still Available
If you sign up for automatic payments with your plan, you can still earn bonus data ranging from 500MB to an impressive 10GB based on your selected package.
A Decline in Value?
The recent changes have made it harder to recommend Chatr’s services due to diminished value in their offerings. Even Public Mobile—another provider that recently downgraded its own plans substantially—still presents better options than what Chatr currently provides. As a notable example, Public Mobile offers a competitive rate of $25 for a plan with 4GB or one at $35 that includes 15GB; though, some may find Public's own offer at $40 with just 20GB less appealing compared to Chatr's more extensive option at the same price point if roaming is not needed.
The Competition: Freedom mobile vs. Chatr
The pricing structure now closely resembles that of Freedom Mobile; though, Freedom’s packages deliver much greater value overall. for example, both providers feature a similar plan priced at $39 offering access to either service's respective data limits—60GB—but Freedom enhances this deal by including access to their faster network technology (5G) along with roaming options across Canada and into the U.S./Mexico as part of the package—all while maintaining unlimited texting capabilities.
A Trend Among Rogers Brands?
