Google Messages Unveils Game-Changing ‘Delete for Everyone’ Feature!

Google messages: A Strong Option to Apple Messages
Over time, Google Messages has gained features that make it a worthy alternative to Apple Messages. The newest update allows users to completely unsend messages, helping them avoid the embarrassment of sending texts by mistake.
New Feature: Delete for Everyone
Google is rolling out the “Delete for everyone” feature in its messaging app after testing it with a select group. This new option lets users remove messages from both individual and group chats. Previously, when a message was deleted, it would still be visible to others in the conversation.
A Reddit user named seeareeff discovered this feature (as reported by 9to5Google). though, they did not mention which version of Google Messages is needed for it to work. We tried updating our app but could not activate the feature, indicating that it might be controlled on Google's end.
RCS Messaging protocol
This new functionality only works with messages sent over RCS (Rich Dialog Services), an advanced messaging system that Google wants to promote as a replacement for customary SMS.For this feature to function properly, all participants in the chat must have RCS enabled. This requirement also applies if you want access to other features like message reactions or typing indicators.Additionally, ensure you have updated Google Messages; otherwise, deleted texts may still show up for some users.
Compatibility with Apple Devices
RCS's cross-platform capabilities meen that it should ideally work well with Apple Messages too.Recently, Apple integrated RCS alongside its iMessage system within its messaging app.Though, there’s one critically important condition: other participants need to have updated thier iPhones or iPads to iOS 18 for everything to function smoothly.
Despite these advancements, using RCS may require some setup through Google Messages’ settings and might not be available through every mobile carrier.
Future of Messaging on Android
As more people adopt Google Messages as their primary messaging app on Android devices, we can expect further efforts from Google toward standardizing communication across platforms.
