Google I/O 2025 Highlights: 5 Must-Know Announcements!

At the Google IO 2025 event, attendees were treated to an extensive showcase of artificial intelligence during the nearly two-hour keynote address.
Sundar Pichai,Google's CEO,and his team covered a wide range of topics. While some content was tailored for developers, there were significant announcements that everyday users can look forward to.
1. Google Beam: 3D Video Calls with AI
If you frequently engage in video calls for work, Google Beam may catch your interest. This platform offers “AI-first video communications” with glasses-free 3D visuals.
The Beam device transforms your video feed into a lifelike 3D model. This creates an immersive experience where it feels like you are sitting across from someone during a call. Google claims it achieves “near perfect head tracking” at 60 frames per second.
To utilize this feature effectively, you'll need specific hardware capable of converting standard video into 3D models—like HP's six-camera screen shown in demonstrations. Currently, this means you won't be using Beam at home just yet.
So far, all demo videos have focused on one-on-one conversations; there’s no word on whether it can support group calls around a table. The first devices will launch later this year, promising to change how we meet virtually.
Google is also working on real-time speech translation for Beam so users can converse naturally across different languages.
