Good news for Spotify users who don’t want all of the video features on the app, as Spotify has given you the ability to turn all of that off.
Essentially, Spotify’s video settings control several areas. For starters, the good ol’ Canvas toggle is still there, but now there are two additional switches alongside it. One lets you control whether the app plays music videos. The other, labelled “all other videos,” controls video podcasts, vertically scrolling videos, and artist clips.
If you want to turn off the videos on Spotify, you’ll find the controls under Settings, then in the section labelled Content and Display. Once you choose your preferences, they will apply across all platforms. Ideally, if you are a family account manager, you can toggle the video settings for all members on the plan.
To add some context, Spotify has increasingly leaned on video additions in recent years. The canvas video loop arrived in 2018, with video podcasts following a few years later in 2020. Four years later, the platform finally added music videos (though it took another year for Canadians to access them), followed by artist clips, in which creators can send promotional messages to fans.
Now, Engadget did point out that Spotify claims 70 per cent of users say more video content would enhance their experience, so more video features are probably on their way in the near future. However, this new setting is a nice alternative for those who don’t want a video feature on their screen while listening to music.
