Exploring the New Comet Browser from Perplexity
Recently, I had the chance to try out a fresh AI-driven browser called Comet, created by Perplexity. Currently, this browser is in an invite-only phase, with priority given to those who have a subscription with Perplexity. The company has ambitious plans for expanding into mobile platforms as well.
Perplexity is actively developing a mobile version of the Comet browser and is in discussions with smartphone manufacturers about pre-installing it on their devices. In an interview with The Verge, CEO aravind Srinivas confirmed that a mobile version is on its way and will work alongside the existing Perplexity app.

He noted that some individuals might prefer using the standalone comet app similar to how they currently use Chrome or Safari. The company plans collaborations with smartphone makers so that their Comet app comes pre-installed on new devices right out of the box. “It’s not easy convincing mobile manufacturers to switch from Chrome as their default browser,” Srinivas explained during his conversation with Reuters.
Perplexity has already established a similar agreement with Motorola for pre-installing its mobile application on smartphones. This partnership includes custom optimizations allowing users swift access to features like email management,music control,and restaurant reservations through Moto AI tools.
Srinivas acknowledged that gaining traction won't be straightforward as Google has existing agreements ensuring Chrome remains as the default option for many Android phones—some aspects of which are currently under antitrust review.
