Everything You Need to Know About GTA 6: Release Date, Trailers & Gameplay!
It’s hard too believe,but it has been over ten years since the last grand Theft Auto game was released. While many players are still enjoying GTA Online, we are just months away from the highly awaited launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. As we eagerly anticipate this release, there is much to discuss regarding what GTA 6 will bring to fans. This title is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games for PlayStation 5, even more so than other upcoming titles.
Release Date for GTA 6
Initially, GTA 6 was expected to launch in fall 2025. However, in May 2025, Rockstar announced a change in plans. The new release date is set for May 26, 2026.
The proclamation included an apology for the delay and gratitude towards fans for their continued support as developers work hard on making GTA 6 exceptional. This news surprised some given TakeTwo's earlier confidence about a fall or winter release; however, many were prepared for a delay.
While there’s always a chance of further delays, having a specific date gives hope that Rockstar feels confident about meeting this timeline.
Trailers and Characters
The first trailer for GTA 6 was initially scheduled to drop on December 5, but it leaked online early.this gave us our first glimpse at both the world and characters involved in the game.
This time around, players will follow two main characters instead of one or three as seen in previous installments: Lucia and Jason. Lucia appears to have a troubled past with crime; she is shown wearing prison attire in the trailer. Jason seems more laid-back but has also been influenced by his upbringing around crime after serving time in the military before becoming involved with drugs until he met Lucia.
The Setting: Vice City
A key aspect of any Grand Theft Auto game is its setting.For this installment, Rockstar returns us to Vice City—this time depicted thru modern eyes rather than its late '80s version from before. the trailer showcases various environments including beaches and city streets alongside quieter suburbs and swamps.
Main Characters
- Cal Hampton: A friend of Jason who enjoys conspiracy theories.
- Bobbi Ike: A former crime lord turned real estate mogul known throughout Vice City.
- Dre’quan Priest: An aspiring musician who once sold drugs on the streets.
- The Real Dimez: Social media stars who transitioned from scamming drug dealers into fame online.
- Raul Bautista: A seasoned criminal always looking for his next big heist.
the action quickly escalates as we see Lucia and Jason diving back into criminal activities shortly after her release from prison—armed robberies and car chases abound!
Soon-to-Be Available Platforms
Pleased note that GTA 6 will officially be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S upon launch; however it won’t be coming out on older consoles or Nintendo Switch at this time.
While PC gamers may feel left out initially since no confirmation exists yet regarding its availability there—it took two years post-launch before they could access GTA V—but Red Dead Redemption II made its way onto PC just weeks later so perhaps hope remains alive!
A Glimpse Into Gameplay Mechanics
No gameplay footage appeared within trailers thus far—they’ve all been cinematic—but based off what we've seen so far leads us toward certain expectations surrounding gameplay mechanics.
Expect plenty involving shooting mechanics along with driving sequences plus various criminal undertakings!
Players should also anticipate switching between first-person view versus third-person perspective similar found within prior titles like GTAV & RDRII!
