Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has changed his mind about stepping away from the Dune series. He is now preparing to create Dune 3.

The upcoming film will likely be titled Dune Messiah. This movie will adapt the second book in frank Herbert's series and is expected to be villeneuve’s last entry in this saga. however, he has left room for other directors to explore additional Dune novels in the future.
Inspiration Behind the Project
In a recent press Q&A, Villeneuve expressed how touched he was by the global response to Dune: Part Two. He noted that there is meaningful interest in continuing this story, which motivates him to complete it.
Focus on Key Characters and Themes
Villeneuve revealed that Dune 3 will center around Zendaya’s character and delve into themes of a holy war. Although he is still developing the script, he mentioned that new ideas came to him during a break after finishing work on Dune: Part Two.
Timeline of Events
Set twelve years after the conclusion of Dune: Part Two, this film will follow Paul Atreides as he navigates life after marrying Princess Irulan. Fans may also see Jason Momoa’s character return as a clone of Duncan Idaho.
Release Date Announcement
Warner Bros. has confirmed that Villeneuve's next project is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. It truly seems likely that this film will be part three of the Dune saga.
