Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile to Sunset on May 18 After Underperforming on Phones – YugaTech Gaming

In a surprising turn for mobile shooters, Activision announced on May 16 that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be removed from the App Store and Google Play on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The mobile battle royale, which debuted globally on March 21, 2024, shared cross-progression with its PC and console counterpart but “has not met our expectations with mobile-first players,” according to the developer’s official statement.

Players who downloaded the game before Monday, May 19 will retain access to existing content, servers, and matchmaking, as well as continued cross-progression between Warzone Mobile and Call of Duty: Warzone on other platforms. However, Activision confirmed that there will be no further seasonal updates, no new gameplay features, and real-money purchases (including COD Points and the Black Cell Battle Pass) will be disabled immediately. Activision will not issue refunds for past purchases or unspent COD Points, though those points can still be redeemed in-game until support ends.

Warzone Mobile launched after a limited region rollout in late 2022, drawing praise for faithfully adapting Verdansk and its modern mechanics to touchscreens. Early adoption was strong—generating $1.4 million in consumer spending within its first four days—but engagement lagged behind internal targets, and daily active user counts plateaued well below those of Call of Duty: Mobile. Industry analysts point to fierce competition in the mobile shooter space and the challenge of translating a sprawling battle royale to smaller screens as key factors in the game’s struggles.

Looking ahead, Activision is encouraging displaced Warzone Mobile veterans to migrate to Call of Duty: Mobile, which remains one of the top-grossing mobile games worldwide. As an incentive, players who link their Call of Duty accounts before May 19 will have any unspent COD Points in Warzone Mobile transferred and doubled in Call of Duty: Mobile. This move underscores Activision’s continued commitment to its most successful mobile franchise.

While Warzone Mobile’s shutdown marks the end of a high-profile experiment in bringing console-grade battle royale to handheld devices, the core Warzone experience on PC and consoles remains stronger than ever. The main game’s Season 8 launched this week, introducing the feared demon lord Belial as a new raid boss and commemorating Warzone’s second anniversary with themed challenges and rewards. As for mobile fans, their battlefield of choice will now be Call of Duty: Mobile—where epic gunfights, seasonal events, and robust esports support continue to flourish.
