Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Shuts Down May 18 After Disappointing Launch

Call ⁢of Duty: Warzone Mobile to Be Removed

On May 16, Activision made a surprising declaration ‍regarding Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. The game will be taken off the App Store⁤ and Google Play on May 18, 2025. Launched globally on March 21, 2024, this mobile battle royale was designed to work alongside its PC and console versions. However, ⁤Activision stated that it “has not met our expectations‍ with⁤ mobile-first players.”

Official Statement‍ from Activision

In a message shared ⁢via Twitter, the⁣ developers expressed gratitude for the community's⁤ support for warzone Mobile. they mentioned that they would be narrowing the game's focus moving forward. This decision came after careful ‍thought about various factors affecting player engagement.

Access for Existing Players

Players who downloaded Warzone Mobile before May 19 will still have access to their content and matchmaking services. They can also continue using ⁣cross-progression⁤ features between Warzone Mobile and other platforms like PC ⁣and consoles. However, no new seasonal updates⁤ or gameplay features will be added going forward. Real-money purchases such as COD Points and the Black Cell Battle Pass will also be disabled promptly. Importantly, there won’t be any refunds for past purchases or unused COD Points; however, players can still ‍use those points in-game ⁢until support ends.

Initial Success but Declining Engagement

Warzone Mobile⁣ had a promising start after its limited rollout in late 2022; it ‌earned ⁣$1.4 million within just four days of launch due to strong initial interest from players who‌ appreciated its adaptation of Verdansk’s mechanics for touchscreens. Despite this early success, player engagement fell short of internal ‌goals over time ‌as daily active users did not keep pace with those seen in Call of Duty:‌ Mobile.

Industry experts⁢ suggest that intense competition among mobile shooters played⁤ a significant role in ⁤these ⁢struggles along with difficulties in ⁤adapting a ‌large-scale battle royale experience to smaller screens.

Transitioning Players ⁤Encouraged

As part of their strategy moving forward, Activision is urging former Warzone Mobile players to switch over‌ to Call of‌ Duty: mobile—one of the leading mobile games worldwide today. To encourage⁢ this transition, any unspent COD Points from Warzone Mobile linked before May 19 will ⁣be transferred⁢ over and doubled⁣ in Call of Duty: Mobile.

This‌ initiative highlights ‍Activision's ⁢ongoing commitment to supporting its most accomplished mobile franchise while providing incentives for loyal fans during‍ this transition period.

The Future Beyond Warzone Mobile

The shutdown signifies an⁣ end to an ‌ambitious attempt at bringing console-level battle royale gaming onto handheld devices; however, the main version remains robust on PC and consoles with continued updates⁤ and‍ expansions planned ahead.

Recently launched Season⁢ 8 introduces new content including Belial—the demon ⁣lord—as a raid boss along ‍with‍ special challenges celebrating two years⁣ as Warzone’s debut.

For fans ⁤who enjoyed playing on mobile devices previously offered by ⁤Warzone Mobil,e they can now dive ⁢into Call of Duty: ⁣Mobile where thrilling gunfights await alongside seasonal events supported by esports activities that continue thriving within this popular title.
