Donkey Kong Bananza – Nintendo Direct | Nintendo Switch 2

The reveal trailer for Donkey Kong bananza, primarily showcases DK and highlights some gameplay mechanics. The story unfolds on Ingot Isle, where Donkey Kong and his monkey friends are searching for rumored golden bananas hidden underground. However, their quest takes a turn when villains from VoidCo steal these precious bananas. While this plot feels familiar, three new villains add an intriguing twist to the story.

Diving into this adventure won’t be a solo mission for DK; he has help from an unusual companion—a talking rock named Odd Rock who rides on his shoulder throughout their journey.

A New gameplay Experience

The gameplay in Donkey Kong Bananza, while still fitting within the platformer genre, offers something unique compared to previous titles in the series. One standout feature is its destructible environments—DK can smash through almost anything in his path or even tear up parts of his surroundings to use as weapons against enemies or obstacles like sharp vines.

This level of interaction allows players great freedom in exploring levels and uncovering hidden secrets within walls or even digging straight down into tunnels. Additionally, DK can climb nearly any wall ensuring players don’t get stuck without options.

The game isn’t solely focused on destruction; there are plenty of collectibles scattered throughout each level including gold coins and bananas. One special move called Hand Slap creates an area effect that collects nearby items automatically so players don’t have to gather them one by one.

An interesting mechanic is DK’s whistle ability—by holding down L button he plays a tune that creates a musical path guiding him toward objectives so players won’t lose their way during exploration.
