Koodo texting customers a $40/70GB plan deal when buying a phone

Telus flanker brand Koodo is texting customers a special $40/70GB plan deal with a new phone.

My wife received one such “limited time loyalty offer.” It includes 70GB of 4G data for $40/mo (after pre-authorized bank payment) for customers who upgrade to a new phone on Koodo’s Tab system. The plan also includes unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting.

Moreover, the text notes that customers get three free months of Amazon Prime with the plan. Notably, Koodo has offered free Prime as an incentive in the past, but it hasn’t done so recently.

To get the plan, customers need to head to Koodo’s website via a special link provided in the text message and click ‘Phone plans,’ then progress through the steps to pick a new phone and the $40/70GB plan. Alternatively, customers can head to a Koodo store and show the message to staff to claim the offer.

Text from Koodo about the $40/70GB deal, alongside another Koodo promo offering $40/60GB plans for adding a line.

To put the deal in perspective, it offers more data for less money than Koodo’s in-market plans. Customers looking to get a phone with the Tab have three plans to pick from (all prices include a $10/mo discount for using pre-authorized bank payments):

  • $50/20GB
  • $55/60GB
  • $70/80GB

Overall, the plan is a pretty solid option, so if you get the message and want a new phone, this is probably the way to go.

However, there are some other options for customers not looking to upgrade their phone. First, while I was looking into the details for the $40/70GB offer, a pop-up on Koodo’s website showed another “limited time” deal offering a $40/60GB plan for adding a line (includes the $10 pre-authorized payments discount and another $5/mo discount for 24 months). To get this deal, use promo code AAL5.

Finally, I also noted my wife had several special offers on her account, including the following plans (again, all including the $10 pre-authorized payments discount):

  • $29/20GB 4G
  • $34/30GB 4G
  • $39/50GB 4G
  • $44/60GB 4G
  • $49/80GB 4G
  • $55/100GB 5G
  • $60/100GB 5G with Canada/U.S. roaming
  • $65/120GB 5G with Canada/U.S. roaming

Some of those plans are quite solid, while others are… not great. For example, Koodo offers an in-market $40/60GB plan, which makes the $39/50GB and $44/60GB special offers redundant. But the $49/80GB and $55/100GB options both beat Koodo’s in-market $55/80GB plan.

All this is to say, if you’re with Koodo right now, check your account for special offers, because it looks like there are tons of deals available right now.
