Opera Mini is a mobile browser with a long history, even before teh rise of platforms like Android and iOS. Over time, its popularity has decreased as users prefer more advanced browsers like Chrome and Safari, which come pre-installed on many devices. To compete with these giants,Opera has made some unpopular changes,such as introducing full-screen ads and a flashy news feed.
Despite these changes, Opera Mini still shines in one key area: its data-saving features. In the early days of smartphones when data was expensive and limited, this was a major selling point. While slow internet speeds and data limits are less common now,they can still occur occasionally. This is where Opera Mini remains useful.
Recently, Opera Mini added an AI chatbot named Aria that can answer questions and create images. To evaluate Aria's effectiveness compared to ChatGPT and google gemini,I conducted some tests.
Unique Features of Opera Mini’s AI
The main advantage of aria is that it’s built into the browser itself. If you use Opera Mini already, there’s no need for an extra app. Currently, Aria supports both text queries and image generation; you can ask questions or attach images for answers based on them.
While these functions are helpful, they are not unique to this chatbot alone. What piqued my interest is how Opera claims that using Aria helps save data while browsing. I decided to investigate whether this claim holds true through testing.
Unlike companies like OpenAI or Google that have developed their own AI models from scratch, Opera states that its chatbot relies on technology from other providers like Google and OpenAI without revealing much about how it works internally.
Testing Methodology
I divided my tests into four parts to assess each chatbot's performance across different tasks involving varying levels of complexity—focusing on accuracy speed while monitoring data usage for each request.
I checked Android's app-specific data usage after running each prompt to see how much data each AI consumed during processing tasks. Although this method isn’t perfect or scientific by any means—it serves well enough for evaluating whether using Aria leads to actual savings in comparison with others by providing rough estimates rounded off in 0.1MB increments.
Test 1: Basic Knowledge Query
the first test involved simple prompts designed to measure response times along with the amount of data used by each bot when answering straightforward questions likely included during training sessions:
What is the capital of Argentina?
This question had clear answers; all three chatbots responded correctly but took different amounts of time while consuming various amounts of data:

Both Gemini and ChatGPT were significantly quicker than Aria—taking nearly four times longer than either competitor—and did not show any real advantage regarding saving bandwidth compared against ChatGPT which barely used any at all!
Test 2: Complex research Task
For my second test prompt requiring deeper analysis from chatbots:
Create a detailed five-day itinerary for someone visiting Kyoto alone for their first time including cultural experiences food suggestions travel tips.
All bots took longer due to increased complexity but here are results again presented similarly:

ChatGPT managed impressive efficiency despite taking longest overall since it seemed trained specifically around similar requests! Meanwhile both competitors performed faster yet required more resources overall indicating potential trade-offs between speed versus efficiency depending upon user needs/preferences.
Aria provided balanced responses organized neatly into headings bullet points tables citing sources effectively although lacking export options available elsewhere would’ve been nice addition too!
Test Three: Image Generation Capability
Next up was assessing image generation abilities among AIs prompting them generate hyper-realistic digital painting futuristic cityscape dusk rooftop view featuring sleek glass skyscrapers soft neon glows flying vehicles lush gardens bioluminescent plants silhouetted figure watching below.Both Gemini & Chat GPT previously demonstrated prowess here so focus shifted primarily onto scrutinizing performance output produced via ARIA instead!

Final Test: Real-Time Browsing Capability
Lastly assessed ability fetch current data online asking specific query regarding release date standout features upcoming Fairphone model comparing sustainability aspects against prior version launched recently year prior.
Contrary previous text-based requests where OPERA MINI lagged behind competitors here it excelled retrieving relevant details quickly utilizing minimal resources needed completing task efficiently without sacrificing quality whatsoever achieved through streamlined approach employed during execution phase itself yielding positive outcomes overall seen above table format shared previously detailing findings accordingly noted down clearly visible manner easy reference later if necessary too!
