According to a recent press release from Bell, only two other HBO shows—House of the Dragon Season 2 and Game of Thrones Season 8—had higher first-day viewership than The last of Us Season 2 on its debut date, April 13. The new season's opening episode also saw a remarkable increase in streaming numbers, with a rise of 23 percent compared to the series' pilot episode that aired in January 2023.
Storyline Overview
This seven-episode season draws inspiration from the popular PlayStation game released in 2020, titled The Last of Us Part II. The narrative unfolds five years after the conclusion of the first season. It follows Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (portrayed by Bella Ramsey) as their peaceful existence in Jackson is disrupted by an enigmatic group.
