Koodo, Fido, Virgin discount 80GB plan again on last day of sale

It seems $25/80GB is the latest deal trend in Canadian telecom. Yesterday, we wrote about several providers offering that deal (or very similar ones). Notably, Rogers-owned Fido and Bell-owned Virgin Plus had $27/80GB plans, while Telus’ Koodo only had $35/80GB.
Well, now that’s all changed. All three flanker brands adjusted pricing down to $25/mo, matching deals from the likes of Public Mobile (also owned by Telus) and Chatr (owned by Rogers).
Aside from the small discount, the plans remain largely the same (with small differences between the providers). Here’s what you get across all three:
- 80GB of 5G data.
- Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming.
- Unlimited talk and text.
- Unlimited international texting.
- Price includes discount for using autopay ($5-$10, depending on provider).
- Standard features like call display and basic voicemail.
Further, all three providers list March 31 as the end date for these plans, meaning today is the last day for you to get these deals.
Next up, we’ve got the differences, in no particular order:
Koodo
The Telus-owned flanker brand is offering its $35/80GB plan with a $10/mo credit to get it down to the $25/mo plan. However, that $10/mo credit only lasts 24 months, so after two years, the plan will go back to $35/80GB. Which is still a pretty decent deal, but other providers don’t seem to have a similar restriction.
Koodo offers slower 5G data speeds, arbitrarily capping speeds at up to 250Mbps (or 500Mbps if you get the speed boost perk). Speaking of, Koodo also offers a free perk with its plans, including options like premium voicemail, rollover data, the aforementioned speed boost, and more.
Check out the plan on Koodo’s website.
Fido
Fido’s version of the plan is the same as yesterday, but with an extra $2/mo discount. That means it includes data speeds of up to 1Gbps, unlimited international calling to 27 countries, enhanced voicemail, and a free hotspot add-on (since Fido stopped including it for free last year).
Check out the plan on Fido’s website.
Virgin Plus
Finally, we have Virgin Plus. It also offers data speeds up to 1Gbps and unlimited international calls to 27 countries, just like yesterday.
